Here at the James Oglethorpe Primary School we follow a creative curriculum whereby we look at the links across and between subjects in order to maximise learning about different topics.
An example of this is in the Year 6 curriculum:
We study the Amazon Rainforest which has so many links across so may subjects: In creative, we look at the geography of the rainforest and explore the landscape to see why it is home to so many diverse creatures and plants. In writing we look at non-chronological reports and children research rainforest animals and about the Amazon River or Rainforest in order to complete a number of reports. We then move on to balanced arguments where we look into the arguments for and against deforestation and finally, we look at persuasive writing, where we write, expressing our views on deforestation. In science, we include a trip to London Zoo and the Rainforest Biome to see some of the animals that would normally inhabit the rainforest and in art - we have captured the animals of the rainforest.
This approach to learning is carried out across all the year groups and we believe deepens understanding and enjoyment of topics.
If parents would like any further information on this, please contact your child's teacher or the phase leader or Head / Deputy Head teacher.
